Breakfast and Banter

The monthly gathering of the Brethren’s Breakfast Club took place today, with the brethren installed comfortably upstairs at the Très Bon Café in Lymington — a venue which continues to tolerate us with admirable restraint. It was a bumper turnout, with no fewer than seven brethren in attendance, which experts believe may constitute a quorum, a crowd, or possibly a small public order concern.

Conversation ranged across a wide and impressively random selection of subjects, most of which began sensibly before taking several unnecessary detours. Final arrangements were also made for the forthcoming Masonic outing to Longleat Lodge in Warminster on 4th November. Transport will be by minibus, thereby ensuring that nobody has to navigate, everyone can offer advice, and at least one brother can ask, “Are we there yet?”

The journey will include a stop at the Small Arms Museum in Warminster, where we shall fondly recall the distant days when we were apparently trusted to enjoy ourselves responsibly.

The Club meets on the second Wednesday of each month. Drinks — strictly non-alcoholic, which continues to disappoint some and reassure others — are kindly provided by Malcolm, the Provincial Almoner. Breakfast, however, remains firmly on a “buy your own” basis, whether your preference is sausage, hedgehog, or whatever else the café is brave enough to put between two slices of bread.
